Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, the imperial architect and engineer of ancient Rome, wrote the "Ten Books of Architecture", which is the only architectural monograph left before the Middle Ages in Europe. This book later became a classic in the architectural circles of the Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassicism, and still has a profound impact on the architectural circles today. Around the 17th century, a descendant of Vitruvius moved to the Holb region on the Neckar River in modern Germany.

In 1975, Armand Vitruvius Pollio opened a small workshop in his hometown of Holb to manufacture door, hinge, hook and other door and window hardware.
